Slow Down

6th May 2016

As mothers we sometimes get wrapped up in the daily cycle of work, chores, children's activities, homework, cooking/planning meals, and washing school uniforms to name just a few. Our little ones are probably thinking, “Slow down, mom. I need you - please play with me. Are your chores more important?” It feels as though we live our lives in such a hasty race. Yes, slow down mom – take time out of your day to do something special with your child. It can be as simple as skipping rocks in the water or cozying up to a good book.

Upon reflection, we quickly blink and our babies are no longer babies. Remember to take time out of each day for yourself and your family....the chores will be happily waiting for you and your family will cherish the time you’ve given to them. The dirty dishes can stay in the sink - take time to smell the flowers because before we know it, our children are off to college or walking down the aisle.

My name is Jamey, founder of Educational Outfitters franchise. As a mother of three boys who are now 23, 18, and 6, I came across “Slow Down”, a song written by Nichole Nordeman. With Mother’s Day and all three boys graduating kindergarten, high school, and college this May, her lyrics truly resonated with me and I wanted to share them with you.

Here’s to you

You were pink or blue

     everything I wanted

Here’s to you

Never sleeping through

From midnight till the morning

Had to crawl before you walked

Before you ran

Before I knew it

You were trying to free your fingers from my hand

‘Cause you could do it on your own now, somehow

Slow down

Won’t you stay here a minute more

I know you want to walk through the door

But it’s all too fast

Let’s make it last a little while

I pointed to the sky and now you wanna fly

I am your biggest fan

I hope you know I am

But do you think you can somehow

Slow down

Here’s to you

Every missing tooth

Every bedtime story

Here’s to Barbie cars, light saber wars

Sleeping in on Sunday

Had to crawl

Before you walked

Before you ran

Before I knew it

You were teaching me

The only thing love can

Hold hands through it

When it’s scary, you’ve got me

Slow down

Won’t you stay here a minute more

I know you want to walk through the door

But it’s all too fast

Let’s make it last a little while

I pointed to the sky and now you wanna fly

I am your biggest fan

I hope you know I am

But do you think you can somehow

Slow down

Pls don’t roll your eyes at me

I know I’m embarrasing

Someday you’ll understand

You’ll hold a little hand

Ask them if they can

Slow down

I am your biggest fan

I hope you know I am

But do you think you can somehow

Slow down
